Local SEO Checklist for Multi-Location Businesses
Start with duplicate and inconsistent listings
The single most common issue for multi-location businesses is inconsistent business information across locations and directories — a slightly different phone number or address format on one directory can quietly split your ranking signal. Before anything else, audit every location’s name, address, and phone number for exact consistency across Google Business Profile and major directories.
The checklist
- One Google Business Profile per physical location, each with accurate categories, service areas, and photos — not a single profile trying to represent multiple addresses.
- Location-specific landing pages, not just a single “locations” page listing addresses. Each page should have genuinely unique content, not a copy-pasted template with the city name swapped.
- Consistent NAP (Name, Address, Phone) data across your website, Google Business Profile, and every directory you’re listed on.
- Location-specific review generation, since review volume and recency are ranking factors per profile, not sitewide.
- Localized schema markup on each location page, including LocalBusiness/ProfessionalService structured data with the correct address and service area.
Why this compounds over time
Local ranking factors are relative to competitors in that specific area — a fix that moves you from position 8 to position 3 in the map pack for one location can mean a meaningful jump in calls and visits, and that effect multiplies across every location you manage well. The businesses that struggle are usually the ones treating this as a one-time setup rather than ongoing profile and citation management.
